Alessi A. Rispoli, O.D.
Dr. Alessi Rispoli received his Doctor of Optometry degree with a Clinical Excellence Award in 1984 from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from St. John’s University in New York. He is a past president of the Rhode Island Optometric Association and served on the Ethics Committee for the American Optometric Association. He was appointed by Governor Lincoln Almond to the RI Board of Examiners in Optometry serving as a board member and Chairman from 1987-2005.
Katherine S. Rispoli, O.D.
Dr. Katherine Rispoli received her Doctor of Optometry degree in 1984 from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. She graduated Cum Laude from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She served as Co-Chair of the RI Vision USA Project, a charity program of the American Optometric Association, for 12 years. She has served on the board of the Rhode Island Optometric Association.
A. Robert Child, O.D.
Dr. Robert Child joined SPECS Eye Care in 2010. He is an honors graduate of Springfield College, Springfield, MA and the New England College of Optometry in Boston. He is a member of the American Optometric Association and is a charter member of that association’s Contact Lens Section. He has served as President of the Rhode Island Optometric Association and the New England Council of Optometrists. He has served on the Board of Trustees at the New England College of Optometry since 1996.
As part of our Front Office Team, Claire has over 30 years of experience in the optometric field and is familiar with all aspects of our office. Having attended numerous classes and seminars, Claire has excellent triage skills to assist patients with emergencies and is knowledgeable with most insurance vision care benefits. She brings persistence and dedication to her task of addressing any patient concerns, whether medical and insurance issues.
A Front Office Team member, Beth brings to our practice 23-plus years of customer service relations. After spending many years helping customers in a busy service business, she attended Salter School in Fall River, MA, graduating at the top of her class in Medical Administrative/ Health Claims specialty program. Her smile greets our patients, making them comfortable from the start of their visit to her scheduling them for their return.
Our newest Front Office team member is Heather, who brings 23 years experience in customer service to Specs Eyecare. Having a long career in retail management, she is able to serve our patients by being very attentive to their needs and concerns. A change in career interest led her to Salter School in Fall River, MA where she graduated with a GPA of 3.6 in Medical Coding/Billing and Electronic Medical Records. Having an extensive knowledge of diabetes, she understands the eye care needs of that population. She brings a warm smile and a friendly personality to our Front Office, eager to serve our patients.
Joyce has been working with Drs. Rispoli for over 22 years as an Optometric Assistant and Contact Lens Technician. She is responsible for pre-testing, performing diagnostic tests and documenting patient histories. Her duties also include ordering contact lenses for fitting and patient supplies. She assists the doctors in fittings and teaching patients how to insert, remove and care for their lenses. Her training includes refraction classes at Marco ophthalmic instruments headquarters in Florida and contact lens educational seminars. Joyce is always ready to assist our patients, whether it is pre-exam or diagnostic testing, photography, lens care, pricing, rebate information or shipping contact lenses direct to home or office.
With over 20 years of experience in many aspects of optometric care, from scheduling to pre-testing and diagnostic testing to contact lens fitting and care instruction. Maria assists our doctors in patient care and contact lens fittings. Having experience in different types of practices, she helps our patients with contact lens fittings and lens care, performs visual field testing and photography. She contributes to a smooth-running office, corresponding with other medical practitioners and helping in administrative duties. She makes our patients feel comfortable, adding Portuguese to our language spoken and discussing cats with all the feline-lovers.
